A hospital's special care department that offers intensive care medicine is called an ICU. Patients with life-threatening diseases and injuries require intensive care. There are also special pediatric cardiac intensive care units that treat congenital heart disease patients. If these services are available at the hospital, these units often provide cardiac transplantation and postoperative cardiac catheterization
